Councilmember Trachtenberg In the "Council Close Up" Program

Councilmember Duchy Trachtenberg stopped by the County Cable Montgomery studios this morning to tape an edition of the Council Close Up with host Susan Kenedy.

Councilmember Trachtenberg joined Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, Ed.D, ACSW, and Executive Director of the National Center for Children and Families and Chief Deputy Sheriff Darren Popkin for a roundtable discussion about the Montgomery County Family Justice Center (FJC) and the critical work being done at this one-stop center to help families dealing with the devastating effects of domestic violence.

Councilmember Trachtenberg made the point that this is an issue that affects everyone’s life, either personally or and through knowing a friend or family member secretly dealing this with private physical and emotional abuse. Dr. Brisset-Chapman added that the children exposed to this situation will often go on to abuse their own children and violently act out in society as well. So, since domestic violence touches everyone in one way or another, it is up to all of us to do what we can to find ways to bring and end to the violence.

Duchy Trachtenberg "In the Loop"

It was a pleasure being the first interviewed guest on In the Loop, a new program on County Cable Montgomery (CCM). Hosted by Jean Arthur of the Council’s Legislative Information Office, the program will provide an opportunity for Council members and community leaders to tell viewers more about special programs and projects.

I shared information on a recently completed study on Reproductive Health Services in Montgomery County, which highlighted the rising rate of teen pregnancy locally. My taped segment started airing March 21st and will continue for three weeks.

Overview of Montgomery County's Budget and Revenue Outlook for FY11

County Executive Ike Leggett and Chief Administrative Officer Tim Firestine presented an update of the County's fiscal situation for FY10-11. Joining them was OMB Director Joe Beach, Finance Director Jennifer Barrett, and their colleagues. This update set the stage for the March 15 transmittal of the Executive's recommended FYIl operating budget.

This update reflects the increasingly heavy toll that the Great Recession has taken on State and County revenues, as it has for governments nationwide.

Live Broadcast of County Executive Budget Forum in Bethesda on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will attend a budget forum on Wednesday, January 27 that will be broadcast live on County Cable Montgomery. During the forum, residents can call or text their questions to 301-525-2229. Or, residents can email their question to publicinformation@montgomerycountymd.gov before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The forum will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, and residents from any part of the County are encouraged to attend.

Wednesday’s forum is the last of five Leggett is sponsoring in January to seek input from residents about the challenges facing the County in the upcoming fiscal year 2011 operating budget. Staff from the County’s Office of Management and Budget will make presentations and also be available to answer questions.

The forum will be broadcast live on County Cable Montgomery, Channel 6 for RCN and Comcast subscribers and Channel 30 for Verizon subscribers. The show can also be viewed live on the County’s website by going to www.montgomerycountymd.gov and clicking on County Cable 6.
